We helped reunite an ‘ANZAC’ Bible with its original owner’s descendant.
The Bible, pictured below, belonged to Brian Cogdon, from Caufield, Victoria. According to the information in the Bible, it was presented to him as a member of the Victorian Contingent of the Australian Imperial Force, volunteering for service in the defence of the British Empire.
Found, with help from ABC Adelaide Breakfast Radio! We have found the relatives of Frank Cathro, who are thrilled!
The Bible Museum has a New Testament Bible which was owned by a soldier, Frank Cathro, who was part of the Gallipoli campaign. He was wounded twice at the Dardanelles and repatriated home, as shown in the record below.
We are seeking Frank’s descendants, in order to reunite them with their ancestor’s Bible. We know Frank sent the Bible as a present to his sister (?), Edith H. Cathro, from Egypt, in 1915. After researching Frank’s military records online, we found he was probably from South Australia.
In the rear of the Bible there are details of ‘Colin Cathro’, from New Mile End in South Australia.
